Derp Derp Derp

Uh, wow, I really didn't do to good today, and I'm not sure why. To quote derpy hooves, "I don't know what went wrong!" Maybe I just really wasn't in the mood or something.

Well, at least I got these drawings done. I did try to do them well at least.

This was supposed to be a drinking glass, but as it turns out, I cant draw things that reflect really well at all. Heh heh.

And this was an attempt at the family cat. I suppose I did alright on the volume, but the paper was too small to fit the whole thing. Either that or I didn't draw small enough.

I tried to draw the same cat in a different position, but he switched while I was just starting. Cat naps, why must you last such a short time?

I started drawing two shoes that I placed on a table, but I slowly realized the proportions were way off...

...so I tried again, the proportions were okay this time, but I think I over abused the dark shades.

That's 44 down, only 9956 to go.

See you next time.

I'm Back........Again

Uh, heh heh heh. I could give you a few semi-legitimate reasons why I haven't submitted any drawings recently, reasons like my cousin coming over for a week or my wallet being too empty to pay for college tuition, but those, though true, would just be excuses. I have had plenty of free time despite such lingering duties, so, in truth, I have been extremely lazy, and that's all. I apologize for this, and I will try my best to get out at least a drawing a day from now on.

Now onto the drawings, and there are quite a few:

Self portraits are always good to try out, right? This is what I look like, more or less. It's pretty difficult to find the subtle shadows of the face. I spent absolutely no time on the shirt if you can't tell.

This was a quicky. Can you tell what it is supposed to be? Hint: I live in California.

I think the guitar is one of the few things that would be easier to draw with actual outlines first because of it's odd shape.

This is my first (well technically third, but...mnahh) attempt to draw a very detailed tree in a while, and though this one didn't turn out too good, I really like the way I started it. I tried doing very minute gestural squiggles for the leaves, and that really worked out well. This actually surprisingly does look like a tree from far away (if you want to emulate far away digitally, simply shrink the image you're looking at). Think I've talked about this enough? Me too.

I worked pretty hard on this one. I'm not gonna tell you what it is because I'm hoping you'll get it, really hoping. I can tell you what it's on top of though, a paper towel. See those seemingly random lines all round the white space? They're actually the patterns printed on said paper towel.

I spent a pretty long time on this one. I cheated with the background again for the sake of clarity. It's a stuffed caterpillar if you can't tell. The hardest part was the antenna that's drooping down to the bottom, the one with the shadow on the ground. I had to shade and erase the part behind it several times before it looked different enough to be visible. What was also hard was dealing with the colors. Each of those sphereish shapes was a different color and most of them were the same shade, so I had to make one or two of them darker than the rest to differentiate them.

Well, that was fun. See you next time, which will be tomorrow.

Hands, blankets, bunnies?

Since I can't really think of things to say at the beginning of these blog posts, I will comment on each of the individual drawings instead. This may or may not become a permanent practice depending on how well it works out.

A sketch of my hand, and living proof that I really need to improve my cast shadows.

If you can't tell, this is a girl. It is very difficult to draw a living person, because they keep on changing positions.

So this is my attempt at sketching fabric. I spent way longer than I should have on this, and it still turned bad because I sabotaged it right near the end by trying to glaze over part of it with the eraser (said glazing being the whitish diagonal lines around the center if you're curious)

I decided to try drawing a stuffed bunny sitting down, but I didn't like how this one was turning out, so...

...I started over, and this was the result of said redo. Still not great, but at least a little better. I totally cheated with the black background and all, but come on, I was pressed for time.

33 down,  9967 to go.

See you next time.

PS. This may have been technically submitted on the 8th of may, but I finished the drawings and uploaded them here around 11:45 PM; I spent around 35 minutes arranging them and typing this post up, so yeah, think of this as posted on the 7th. I don't even know why I'm going into this useless bit of detail, but whatever. Have fun with life.

Some Traditional Stuff

Yo, what's up? My tablet is still inoperative; the part of the wire that connects to it at the base might be broken, which I'm not sure is easily fixable, so I may not be able to do any more digital drawings any time soon. However, as promised, I will continue on by using the traditional approach to this awesome artistic pursuit: pencil and paper.

I decided to use a Ticonderoga no. 2 pencil and it's attached eraser for these drawings. The paper I used was from a 6x9" sketchpad; the quality and texture of said paper was a little bit better than newsprint.

It's a lot more difficult to gesture sketch with a pencil on small paper than it is on a computer because you have to be very light if you want to get any form of detail or dimension into your drawing. The first time I tried it, I ended up making a big blob of nothingness because I pressed down too hard.

That's 28 down; only 9972 to go. See you next time, which will most likely be tomorrow if I manage to get into the swing of things with traditional drawing.

Tablet Problems

What do you know? My tablet isn't working today. Hmm, if I can't get it to work by tomorrow I'll draw on paper and scan my drawings. I can't let a non-working device for drawing to stop me; I must blaze the trail!

Wish me luck.

More Horses, More Detail

I posted my previous two posts on reddit, and to my utter surprise, I got a comment from a user by the name of hazelbrown, who advised me to spend at least thirty minutes to two hours on my drawings and to try my best to push my limits. Said advice sounds pretty sound (lawl), so lets try this, time for more detail.

Who'dathunk it'd make the output so much smaller, eh?

That's 22 down, only 9978 to go, this'll be fun.

Oh, by the way, I changed the blog format into one slightly better for viewing big images, just letting you know. Hopefully I'll have more drawings out by sometime tomorrow. See you then.

More Horses

A continuation of my horse drawing quest, yippie!

20 down, 9980 to go, see you next time (which will hopefully be tomorrow).
